Achieve an upscale look with tile flooring

Natural flooring materials like ceramic, porcelain, and stone complement any decorating style. Slate, granite, marble, travertine, sandstone, and limestone are popular stones. LuXe Interiors in Ann Arbor, Michigan, offers a wide assortment of tile flooring. No tile floors project is too difficult for our installers.

Ceramic

Ceramic tile is often found in solid colors and patterns that tend to display earthen hues. Ceramic is made of coarse clay that is hardened in a kiln at high temperatures. It is a porous stone, but a glazed ceramic tile floor repels water well. Installation is a labor-intensive job. They are pressed into a mortar and then connected with grout, which comes in many colors. If the grout is maintained properly, the floor can last 75 years or longer. Tiles can be installed on walls, and because of their superior heat resistance, on countertops too. Ceramic is softer than porcelain, and therefore, it is easier to cut during the installation process.

Porcelain

Porcelain, a type of ceramic that is made of fine kaolin clay, is fired at higher temperatures than ceramic. While porcelain is virtually waterproof, it almost always receives a surface glazing treatment in the factory.

Porcelain is the most durable tile on the market. It is favored for its bright colored patterns as well as its ability to mimic other flooring materials. Wood-look ones can be installed in a bathroom where hardwood is inappropriate, and stone looks can be laid in a space that would not tolerate heavy stones. Porcelain, which can be installed outdoors in warm climates, is more costly than ceramic.

Stone

Polished, honed, tumbled, or brushed stone offers a look that ranges from luxe-modern to rustic and old world. Flooring styles vary from mosaic pebbles to roughly cut irregular pieces and large formats. While the singular nature of each stone is part of its allure, a uniform look can be achieved with limestone. When cut from the same slab, they have little color variation. Stone is ideal for first-level applications. It may be too heavy for second-level installation. While granite repels water well, most stones are porous. Therefore, stone needs to be sealed and then resealed periodically throughout its lifespan.
